Oldest Cruise Operators in Belize
On the question of cruise operators in Belize - there are two categories : those on contract with the cruiselines, and independent operators. The oldest operator who was on contract with cruiselines in Belize as far back at 1997 (Windjammer), was Greenwood Adventures (Major Tom and the Fun Team), followed by Cruise Solutions. Major Tom now runs cruise tours independently and operates out of Belize City Along the way came smaller operators up to 2004, when most of the present cruise operators were established, including Cruise Excursions, VIV, and Cave-tubing.com - all relatively new to the cruise industry in Belize, but the first two with more years of experience at other ports of call in Mexico and the Caribbean. For instance, the Park at the Cave Tubing site in Belize was established through the personal efforts of Major Tom (Tom Greenwood of Greenwood Adventures), with full facilities for use by hundreds of cruise guests and overnight tourists. The park is owned and managed by NICH, Belize's National Institute of Culture and History. Major Tom is referred to the pioneer of this tour at the site, by all the other operators and guides there, having started cave tubing when the area was nothing but uncleared rainforest - no park, no facilities, nothing - just a rough trail leading to the caves.
